The following are the component scores that are also calculated by the same 1-100 scoring range:
Originality
This category assesses the creativity and uniqueness of the essay. A high score reflects a fresh perspective or innovative use of themes and metaphors. Improvement can be made by further developing original ideas, incorporating unique insights, and highlighting less conventional experiences.
Narrative Structure
This evaluates how well the essay is organized and how effectively the narrative unfolds. A strong structure, with clear transitions and a coherent flow, is key. To enhance this, consider refining the conclusion, reinforcing central themes, and creating a more dynamic narrative arc.
Story Immersion
Immersion measures how well the essay engages the reader through vivid descriptions and relatable anecdotes. A deeply immersive essay allows the reader to connect emotionally and mentally with the content. Suggestions for improvement include adding emotional depth, enhancing sensory details, and varying the pacing to maintain reader interest.
Vulnerability
This category looks at the essay’s emotional depth and openness. High vulnerability is demonstrated through honest reflections on personal experiences and challenges. To improve, consider exploring more complex emotions, discussing internal struggles, and showing how these experiences led to personal growth.
Story Craft
Story craft assesses the quality of writing, including the use of language, literary devices, and sentence structure. A well-crafted essay is both engaging and polished. Enhancements could include incorporating a variety of literary techniques, varying sentence structures, and ensuring smooth transitions between ideas.
Grammatical Proficiency
This category evaluates the technical aspects of writing, including grammar, punctuation, and overall clarity. A high score reflects a well-proofread essay with minimal errors. To achieve a higher score, consider conducting a thorough final proofreading and simplifying overly complex sentences.
